First Time Watching The Original Japanese Version

First Time Watching The Original Japanese Version

Postby AwakeningSunshine » 10 Jul 2011, 23:49

When I was about 6, my brothers and I used to watch the dubbed version of CCS (called Cardcaptors in the dub). I read the manga of it when I was about 7 or 8, making it my first anime and manga. When I was about 13, I discovered Cardcaptors again on YouTube and watched it. I've watched the series in English several times through since then, but now I'm watching it in Japanese for the first time. What do you guys think of the dub version of CCS?

Its been cut up and changed so much that they are 2 different shows now - I can watch both of them. I got further along in the dub version though

Yeah, I've known that it was changed a lot in the English version for a while, but since I read the manga which was not changed really, I never bothered to watch the original

I have yet to read the manga (bad me, I know)

But my first experience with Cardcaptor Sakura was actually the original Japanese version. I'd bought 3 VHS during a sale at one of my favorite movie places before they went under, took them home, watched them, and FELL IN LOVE.

That was way back in...perhaps '98, '99? (possibly later), and it wasn't until last year or so that I finally downloaded the whole thing and watched it in one weekend. I love the original version, so, so much. The music is amazing.

As for the dub, I refuse to touch that with a 10,000 foot Spiral Heart Moon Rod. I'd heard it had been wrecked nearly as bad as Sailor Moon had been, and possibly worse. I loved the fact that Sakura's brother and Yuki were in a relationship and was angry that it'd been completely changed to something else entirely.

Yeah, I know that the English anime was edited heavily, but since that was what got me interested in anime and manga in the first place, I'll probably always like it

I haven't fully watched CCS in English Dub. Only watched through it the one time in Japanese Sub. I liked it, but it wasn't as good as Sailor Moon imo. My favorite characters in it would have to be Sakura and Yukito.
